BRGM

National geological service, the BRGM is the benchmark public institution in Earth science applications for managing the resources and risks of the soil and subsoil.

The BRGM aims at responding to major challenges for our society, more particularly those linked to climate change, the energy transition and the development of circular economy. Around the geosciences, the BRGM is developing expertise to contribute to a harmonized management and controlled use of the soil and the subsoil of cities and territories.

The BRGM’s activity is organized around 6 major societal challenges :

  • Geology and knowledge of the subsoil
  • Digital data, services and infrastructures
  • Risk and territory planning
  • Groundwater management
  • Mineral resources and circular economy
  • Energy transition and underground area

Its action is orientated towards scientific research, support for public policies and international cooperation.

The BRGM conducts contractual research with industrial sectors and companiesof all sizes.

The BRGM was created in 1959. It is a public industrial and commercial establishment (EPIC). It is placed under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, the Ministry of Ecological Solidarity Transition, and the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
